Day 214

Today's Reading Schedule: Jeremiah 37-38

Jeremiah 37: Jeremiah Imprisoned

[Content Overview]

This chapter records Jeremiah who was trapped in the yard of the protestors. Faced with a national crisis, Zedekiah asks Jeremiah for intercessory prayer, but Jeremiah, who knew that God's plan to destroy Judah was clear, risked the risk of being a traitor and declared the fall of Jerusalem. Because of this, he was imprisoned by the princes. However, Jeremiah also made the same prophecy after being released from prison. This chapter consists of the first half (verses 1-10), which mentions the first encounter between Jeremiah and Zedekiah, and the second half (verses 11-21), which describes Jeremiah's imprisonment and his second encounter with Zedekiah. Through these contents, Jeremiah refutes the position of Zedekiah, who has a flimsy personal hope ahead of the destruction of Judah, while also focusing on his own image of constantly spreading the word of God's prophecy despite any adversity.

Jeremiah Chapter 38: The Crisis of the Prophet Jeremiah

[Content Overview]

This chapter depicts a scene in which Jeremiah is rescued from danger after being thrown into a mud pit. This chapter consists of the first half (verses 1-13), which depicts the dramatic rescue of Jeremiah from a mud pit, and the second half (verses 14-28), which describes the final face-to-face encounter between Zedekiah and Jeremiah just before the fall of Jerusalem. Jeremiah was leaked as a result of Ebed-melech's appeal, and considering his influence and status, Ebed-melech was probably a eunuch in the palace. Additionally, Zedekiah's final interview with Jeremiah shows that he should have been willing to accept surrender to Babylon if it was the latest way to avoid the total destruction of his people, even if it brought disgrace to his reputation.
