Day 270 Reading Schedule: Zechariah 11-14


Zechariah 11: The End of the Wicked Who Reject the Messiah  

[Summary]

This chapter shows the extreme sin of the Jews, that is, the sin of the Jews who rejected Christ, and the wrath of God that will be severely poured out on them because of that sin. First, a prophecy about the destruction that will occur in the Jewish nation appears (verses 1-3). Then, Judea is handed over to the Messiah, who takes on the responsibility of guardianship over the remaining flock (verses 4-9). Then, the Messiah takes on the responsibility of Judea and takes care of it. The Messiah realizes that the nation is wrong, gives up, breaks his staff (verses 10-13), and also cuts off his other staff (verse 14). Instead of preventing destruction, the Messiah sends shepherds who will completely destroy them (verses 15-17).


Zechariah 12: Restoration of Jerusalem and Promise of Salvation

[Summary]

This chapter introduces the story of nations invading Jerusalem and Judah, but God giving strength to the leaders of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to overcome them. They realize that the efforts of the enemies to destroy the church will only bring about their own destruction and will not cause any damage to the church (vv. 1-4). In addition, the efforts of the sponsors to build the temple will be godly, regular, and successful (vv. 5-6), and God will strengthen, protect, and save the lowly and weak who belong to the temple (vv. 7-8). As a preparation and pledge for all these mercies, God prophesies that He will pour out on them the spirit of prayer and repentance, which is the general and most specific effect (vv. 9-14).


Zechariah 13: Purification and Salvation of Jerusalem 

[Summary]

This chapter presents promises and prophecies related to the gospel era. First, the promises of destruction and forgiveness of sins are presented (vv. 1-6).  And there is a promise that the kingdom of Judah will be destroyed and that God will sanctify the remnant (vv. 7-9).


Zechariah 14: The Kingdom of God's Glory

[Summary]

This chapter talks about the 'day of the Lord', that is, the day of his judgment. The day of the Lord will bring judgment and mercy, and the church will be given mercy and the church's enemies and persecutors will be judged. After the destruction of the enemy nations that came against Jerusalem (vv. 1-3), Christ's coming and the kingdom of grace will be established (vv. 4-11). Also, the disasters that the enemy nations suffer in Jerusalem (vv. 12-15), the remnant people from the nations before and after the war will return to the Lord (vv. 16-19), and everything will become a world of holy glory (vv. 20-21).
