Day 275 Reading Schedule: Ezra 9-10

Ezra 9: The Spiritual Reality of Israel

[Overview]

The governors reported to Ezra the corruption of Israel at the time. The content was that the Israelites, the Levites, and even the priests were committing the great sin of marrying foreigners and worshipping the idols brought by the foreigners (verses 1-2). Upon hearing this report, Ezra tore his clothes, pulled out his hair and beard, and prayed earnestly in repentance (verses 3-5). The content of Ezra's prayer of repentance is as follows (verses 6-15). From the time of their ancestors to this day, Israel has committed sins before God, but God has gathered the remnant of Israel to Jerusalem with grace and love, and yet he cannot help but feel sorrow in the face of the national reality of committing the great sin of idolatry.

Ezra 10: Ezra's Religious Reform

[Summary]

Before directly rebuking or admonishing the people, Ezra first repented and wept bitterly, and the people who saw this were pricked and joined in repentance (verses 1-4). Then, Ezra gathered the leaders of Israel and tried to solve the problem (verses 5-8). First, he gathered all the people of Israel to Jerusalem and calmly obtained national consent to solve the problem of marriage with foreigners (verses 9-17). Below is a list of people who married foreigners, listed in the order of priests, Levites, temple workers, and ordinary people (verses 18-44).
