Day 255 Reading Schedule: Ezekiel 38-39

Ezekiel 38: Gog's Invasion and Israel's Victory Prophecy

[Overview]

This chapter is the first part of the judgment prophecy against Gog. Here, 'Magog' is described as a symbol of worldly power rather than mentioning a specific place name. Ultimately, the judgment prophecy of this chapter foreshadows the ultimate judgment against worldly powers that reject God. This chapter is composed of the first half (verses 1-9) describing Gog's preparations for war, the middle part (verses 10-16) showing Gog's intention to destroy the Israelites, and the second half (verses 17-23) describing God's judgment against Gog. This content shows that a fierce battle will take place between the Gentile alliance and Israel, but the covenant people will win a great victory through God's power and reveal God's glory.

Ezekiel 39: The Destruction of Gog

[Overview]

This chapter describes the judgment on Magog continuously following the previous chapter. However, the prophecy of this chapter is not a simple repetition of the previous chapter, but rather a different perspective on the judgment prophecy on Magog revealed in the previous chapter and declares the complete destruction of Gog. This chapter consists of the first half (verses 1-8) which prophesies the complete destruction of Gog, the middle half (verses 9-20) which prophesies the situation after the destruction, and the second half (verses 21-29) prophesies God's blessings for Israel. This chapter informs us that the judgment on Magog and the restoration of Israel will occur simultaneously, which implies that the judgment on Magog is a direct factor that promotes the restoration of Israel.
