Day 315 Reading Schedule: John 20~21 John 20: The Resurrected Jesus [Overview] This chapter focuses on the resurrection of Jesus and its impact. The purpose of writing this book was to lead people to eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This is emphasized even more strongly in the resurrection event. The content of this chapter consists of the empty tomb (verses 1-10), the resurrected Jesus (verses 11-18), Jesus appearing to the disciples (verses 19-23), the doubting Thomas (verses 24-29), and the purpose of writing this book (verses 30-31). Ultimately, the apostle John asserts through this chapter that the most important aspect of faith is to confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
John 21: The Resurrected Jesus Meets the Disciples [Overview] The author of this book seemed to conclude this book in the previous chapter, but he introduces a new event in this chapter. The author of this book has said that there were many other signs that Jesus performed to prove his resurrection. So he is stating one of these in this chapter. It is the appearance of Christ to some of his disciples in the Sea of Tiberias, and the content of this book is about the process in which he appeared to the disciples while they were fishing, filled their nets, and then had breakfast with them with what they had caught (vv. 1-14), and the conversation he had with Peter after breakfast, and it is divided into three parts: Jesus himself (vv. 15-19) and John (vv. 20-23). Finally, the concluding part (vv. 24-25) reveals that the disciple whom Jesus loved was the one who wrote this book. |
