Day 229 Reading schedule: 1 Chronicles 21-22

1 Chronicles 21: Erroneous Census

[Content Overview]

So far, we have mentioned the genealogy, political, religious, and military ministries of the Davidic dynasty. This chapter now records David's full-scale reign. But ironically, the record about David starts from a negative point. David took full control of unified Israel and laid a solid foundation for the Davidic dynasty. However, David, who had achieved a solid position by God's grace, became arrogant and committed a sin before God. The scene where David, who had become arrogant after being tempted by Satan, orders a census (verses 1-6), God's wrath against him (verses 7-17), and to stop the punishment, he asks God at the threshing floor of Ornan according to God's instructions. The scene of building an altar and continuing to offer offerings there is recorded (verses 18-30).

1 Chronicles 22: Preparation for the Construction of the Temple

[Content Overview]

On the battlefield, King David's rebellious act of surveying the population of his people due to his pride was recorded. This chapter records David's humble attitude as he prepares for God's temple. In this way, the battlefield and the main scene have contrasting atmospheres. Although David committed a crime by conducting a census, he sincerely repented of his sin and was doing his best to serve God. Therefore, this chapter records that preparations for the construction of the temple became concrete after the site for the temple was confirmed. First, David gathered building materials and workers (verses 1-5). He delegates the role of ambassador to his son Solomon (verses 6-16) and asks various princes to participate in this holy ministry (verses 17-19).
