Day 212

Today's Reading Schedule: Jeremiah 32-33

Jeremiah 32: Jeremiah Buys a Field

[Content Review]

This chapter records the interview between Jeremiah and King Zedekiah, the symbolic actions of Jeremiah who was imprisoned afterward, the reason why God was angry with the people of Judah, and the recommitment to the restoration of Judah. The first half of this chapter deals with Jeremiah's imprisonment due to persecution by King Zedekiah (verses 1-5), the middle part (verses 6-15) mentions Jeremiah's purchase of land as a symbolic act, and the second half (verses 16-44) records Jeremiah's conflict and God's answers alternately. Jeremiah's conflict over symbolic actions according to God's command is described in two ways: as a question and as God's response. When God, who had revealed the destruction of Jerusalem by Babylon, commanded the prophet Jeremiah to buy a field, some confusion and conflict arose in the prophet's mind. This is because, at first glance, the prophecy seemed inconsistent. However, this was to show the duality of justice and love that God would destroy and build at the same time.

Jeremiah 33: Promises about the Messiah

[Content Overview]

This chapter records the eternal restoration of Israel. While the previous chapter emphasized that judgment is essential in the period of restoration, this chapter focuses on the new era of salvation: the return of the people of Judah to the Promised Land, where true peace is restored and normal life begins. It is mentioned that it will continue. At the same time, it is declaring that the royal family of David will be restored and a truly just rule will be established. This chapter is divided into the first half (verses 1-13), which mentions the return from captivity and a prosperous life, and the second half (verses 14-26), which declares the permanence of the dynasty and the Levitical priesthood.
