Day 353 Reading Schedule: : Hebrews 11-13
Hebrews 11:The Nature and Life of Faith
[Summary]This chapter uses examples of perseverance in history to explain the victory of faith. The latter half of the previous chapter talks about the necessity of perseverance, and here it gives examples. This faith is used in a different sense from the Pauline sense of faith. This faith is an attitude of trust with powerful elements of hope and courage. Although most of the attention is paid to the patriarchs, we can find traces of such faith in all of history (verses 1-40).In the latter half of the previous chapter, the author of Hebrews, who deals with faith from the perspective of the principles of spiritual life and perseverance, mentions the nature of faith and the practical life that follows it in this chapter. He lists several people and shows that through examples of people who achieved righteousness through faith, we can overcome any situation if we have faith.
Hebrews 12:Think of Jesus Christ [Summary]The writer of Hebrews urges us to run the race of faith by looking at Jesus. He emphasizes that we must train while looking at Jesus Christ who endured on the cross (verses 1-11). Determination is needed to follow the right path. He commands us to avoid fornication, evil deeds, and immorality (verses 12-17). Now, once again, he speaks of the superiority of the new covenant. He mentions the great glory, great mediator, and great stability of the new covenant, and at the same time, he urges us to use this new way of worshipping God while remembering God’s protection (verses 18-29).The writer of Hebrews, who mentioned many people who lived by faith in the battlefield, urges the saints to be pious by firmly keeping their faith throughout this chapter. In other words, if the previous chapter lists examples of faith in the past, this chapter teaches how the Greeks living in the present should live a life of faith.
Hebrews 13: What the Saints Should Do
[Overview]The author of Hebrews now emphasizes the practical fruits of faith. He gives advice on social life (vv. 1-3), personal life (vv. 4-6), and religious life (vv. 7-9). He adds a doctrinal section explaining the new altar of Christians (vv. 10-17). Then he concludes. The author asks for prayers for himself, especially for the recipients, and offers a touching prayer of blessing and a hymn of glory. He concludes the letter with a final appeal to the recipients, a mention of Timothy, greetings from some of the saints in Italy, and a brief prayer of blessing (vv. 18-25).In this chapter, the last chapter of Hebrews, the author of Hebrews concludes the book by giving practical advice to the saints. He concludes the book by giving appropriate advice on personal life. And after mentioning the sacrifices of the Old Testament and the sacrifice of Christ, he exhorted us to offer a perfect sacrifice.
