Day 292 Reading Schedule: Mark 7-8
Mark 7: Debate on Purity [Summary] The Pharisees and scribes, a group of religious leaders dispatched from Jerusalem, rebuked Jesus' disciples for eating with unclean hands, but Jesus emphasized the evils of the Corban system at the time, emphasizing that the inner heart is more important than external rituals, and rebuked the behavior of nullifying the true meaning of God's word with the traditions of the elders (verses 1-23). When Jesus went to the region of Tyre, a Syrophoenician woman, a Gentile, prayed in faith for Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter, and her daughter's illness was healed (verses 24-30). When Jesus passed through the Decapolis region again and reached the Sea of Galilee, he met a deaf and dumb man, put his fingers in the man's ears, spat, touched his tongue, and prayed, healing him (vv. 31-37).
Mark 8: Ministry Centered on Galilee [Summary] The incident of the seven loaves and two fish, similar to the five loaves and two fish, is introduced (vv. 1-10). The Pharisees criticize Jesus and ask for a sign, but Jesus, knowing their sinful intentions, refuses to give them a sign (vv. 11-13). When Jesus crosses the Sea of Galilee in a boat, he teaches the Pharisees to beware of the leaven (vv. 14-21). When he arrives at Bethsaida, he sees a blind man brought to him, spit in his eyes, lays his hands on him, and heals him (vv. 22-26). In the region of Caesarea Philippi, in response to Jesus' question, Peter makes the famous confession of faith, "You are the Christ." However, he is soon severely rebuked by Jesus for blocking Jesus' redemptive work on the cross (verses 27-38). |
