Day 295 Reading Schedule: Mark 14~16

Mark 14: The Beginning of the Passion of Christ

[Summary]

Two days before Passover, the chief priests and scribes plotted to arrest Jesus (verses 1-2). While Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman broke an alabaster jar and poured perfume on Jesus’ head. The disciples rebuked her, but Jesus praised her (verses 3-9). When Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests to betray Jesus, they gave him money (verses 10-11). Jesus prepared a Passover feast in a large room that had been prepared (verses 12-15). During dinner that evening, he hinted that Judas Iscariot would soon betray Jesus (verses 17-21). Finally, after finishing the Passover meal, Jesus shares his own body and blood (verses 22-26). He prophesies to Peter that he will deny him three times before the rooster crows (verses 27-31). After that, he prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating blood (verses 32-42). Those who came to arrest Jesus take him away, and the disciples run away (verses 43-52). Jesus is interrogated in the courtyard of the high priest, and Peter, who was watching the interrogation process, denies Jesus three times in a panic and cries out with the sound of a rooster (verses 53-72).

Mark 15: The Passion and Death of the Cross

[Summary]

After the chief priests and scribes finished interrogating Jesus, they handed him over to Pilate, and Pilate also interrogated Jesus (verses 1-4). Pilate, knowing that Jesus was innocent, tried to release him by using the Feast Day ritual of releasing a prisoner, but he could not resist the crowd's impulse and released Barabbas instead of Jesus (vv. 5-15). Roman soldiers mocked Jesus by putting a purple robe and a crown of thorns on him (vv. 16-20). Jesus was taken to Golgotha to be crucified. On the way, a man named Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry the cross. After crucifying Jesus, they divided the clothes by casting lots. The people laughed at Jesus (vv. 21-32). At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice and died. At that moment, the veil of the temple was torn apart and a centurion confessed his faith (vv. 33-41). A man named Joseph of Arimathea buried Jesus' body (vv. 42-47).

Mark 16: The Resurrection and Ascension of Christ

[Summary]

The women went to the tomb early in the morning on the first day of the week to anoint Jesus' body with spices (vv. 1-3). When they arrived at the tomb, they saw that the stone that had been blocking the entrance to the tomb had been rolled away, and a young man in white was inside the tomb. The young man in white told them the news of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth and asked Peter to tell them that Jesus was going to Galilee first (vv. 4-8). After the resurrection, Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene, and Mary told the disciples the news of the resurrection (vv. 9-11). After that, the resurrected Lord appeared to two disciples who were going to the country. However, many of Jesus’ other disciples did not believe these words at first (vv. 12-13). After that, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples while they were eating, rebuked them for their unbelief and stubbornness, and gave them the mission to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all people (vv. 14-18). After the Lord Jesus finished speaking, he ascended to heaven, and the disciples preached the word (vv. 19-20).
