Day 312 Reading Schedule: John 14~15 John 14: Jesus Christ, the Way of Salvation [Overview] The words of Jesus included in this chapter are the first of Christ's last discourses that continue until chapter 16, also called the 'Upper Room Discourse' and also known as Jesus' 'Farewell Sermon'. Through this discourse, Jesus clearly reveals his identity and origin, and also gives hope to his discouraged disciples by promising the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. This chapter is composed of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (verses 1-7), the Father and the Son (verses 8-15), the Comforter, the Holy Spirit (verses 16-20), the observance of the commandments (verses 21-34), and the peace that Jesus gives (verses 25-31).
John 15: The Relationship between Christ and the Saints [Summary] This chapter contains the parable of the vine, which clearly reveals the relationship between Jesus, the disciples, and the world more than anywhere else. Jesus is revealed to the disciples as love and to the world as judgment. And the disciples must have an attitude of obedience toward Jesus and caution toward the world. In this way, a relationship of tension and unity is formed between the world, Jesus, and his disciples. This chapter consists of the parable of the true vine and branches (verses 1-11), the relationship of friendship with Jesus (verses 12-17), and the persecution of the world (verses 18-27). In particular, Jesus likens the disciples to friends. In this way, by recording each relationship, the overall relationship of unity between Christ and the saints is emphasized. |
