Day 310 Reading Schedule: John 9~11 John 9: Jesus heals the blind [Overview] This chapter records the sign of healing the blind. The sign of this chapter can be seen as a specific example of Jesus' reinforcement of the 'light of the world' in the previous chapter. Jesus continues the reinforcement of 'light' from the previous chapter at the beginning of this chapter, and then shows a specific example of the reinforcement by performing the sign of giving light to the blind. This chapter consists of Jesus healing the blind as the sixth sign (verses 1-12), the Pharisees' doubts (verses 13-19), the blind parents' evasion of answer (verses 20-23), the conversation between the blind man and the Pharisees (verses 24-29), the blind man's defense (verses 30-38), and Jesus' rebuke of spiritual blindness (verses 39-41).
John 10: Christ the Good Shepherd [Summary] This chapter is about Jesus, the Son of God, the good shepherd. Unlike the Synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of John contains very few metaphors, but this chapter is dominated by metaphors. Jesus repeatedly used various verbal modifiers to refer to himself, but he also used metaphors that were related but had separate concepts. For example, Jesus referred to himself as the 'good shepherd' while also referring to himself as the 'gate of the sheep'. This chapter is composed of the parable of the shepherd and the sheep (verses 1-6), the good shepherd (verses 7-18), the Jews' disagreement (verses 19-21), Jesus' flock and the false flock (verses 22-30), Jesus' self-revelation (verses 31-39), and his departure from the Jews (verses 40-42).
John 11: Christ, the Life and the Resurrection [Summary] The resurrection of Lazarus in this chapter is the last of the seven official signs of Jesus, and it is the greatest in terms of the nature of the signs, and it is also the part that best shows the image of Jesus that John originally intended to convey. The purpose of this chapter is to strongly highlight Jesus Christ, the source of life, and to make the unbelieving Jews believe. This chapter is composed of the following contents: the sickness for the glory of God (verses 1-6), the death of Lazarus (verses 7-16), Jesus, the resurrection and life (verses 17-27), Jesus shedding tears (verses 28-37), Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead as the seventh sign (verses 38-44), the plot to kill Jesus (verses 45-53), and the arrest warrant (verses 54-57).
