Day 296 Reading Schedule: Luke 1~2
Luke 1: The Great Birth Announcement
[Overview]
Luke briefly explains the nature of his gospel (verses 1-4). When the priest Zechariah was offering incense in the temple, an angel appeared and announced the birth of John the Baptist, and his wife Elizabeth conceived a child (verses 5-23). The angel Gabriel announced the conception of the Messiah to Mary, a virgin living in Nazareth. Mary was a virgin who had never known a man, but she believed the angel's prophecy (verses 24-38). When Mary greeted Elizabeth a while later, they were both filled with the Holy Spirit, and Mary sang a famous hymn about the Messiah (verses 39-56). When the time came for Elizabeth to conceive, she gave birth to a son and named him John. John’s father, Zechariah, was filled with the Holy Spirit and praised the ministry of the Messiah and John the Baptist (vv. 57-80).
Luke 2: The Messiah is Born
[Summary]
Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be conducted for the census. Joseph went with Mary to register the census and gave birth to the baby Jesus in a stable at an inn in Bethlehem (vv. 1-7). At that time, an angel appeared to the shepherds who were tending their flocks and told them the news of the birth of the Savior (vv. 8-14), so the shepherds went to Bethlehem and worshiped the baby Jesus (vv. 15-20). When the baby Jesus was taken to the temple in Jerusalem for circumcision, Simeon and Anna, who had been eagerly waiting for the Messiah, worshiped the baby Jesus and praised God (vv. 21-39). Jesus grew up healthy and wise (vv. 40-52).
