Day 297 Reading Schedule: Luke 3~4
Luke 3: The Lord's Way Prepared [Overview] The activities of John the Baptist are introduced. John the Baptist baptized people near the Jordan River and encouraged them to bear fruit worthy of repentance. He also testified that he was not the Christ and that he was baptizing with water now, but that when Christ comes, he would baptize with fire and the Holy Spirit. After that, he was imprisoned for rebuking King Herod for his adulterous relationship (verses 1-20). When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit descended from heaven like a dove (verses 21-22). After that, the genealogy starting from Jesus and going back to God is introduced (verses 23-38).
Luke 4: Jesus Begins His Ministry [Summary] After Jesus was washed in the Jordan River, he was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil three times, but overcame the temptation (vv. 1-13). Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit and taught in the synagogue (vv. 14-15). Jesus entered the synagogue in Nazareth and read from the prophet Isaiah, implicitly declaring that he was the Messiah. However, the people in the synagogue did not listen to him and threw him out (vv. 16-30). In Capernaum, he healed a demon-possessed man, cured Simon Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever, and healed those who were sick with various diseases and those who were possessed by demons. As Jesus’ name became famous and many people came, Jesus took his disciples and went to preach in other towns (vv. 31-44). |
