Day 299 Reading Schedule: Luke 7~8
Luke 7: Salvation Comes True [Summary] The story unfolds as Jesus enters Capernaum and heals the servant of a Roman centurion (verses 1-10). Afterwards, as he was going to Nain, he saw a widow’s son dead and took pity on him and raised him from the dead (verses 11-17). When John the Baptist heard all these rumors, he sent his disciples to Jesus to ask whether he was the coming Messiah or whether they should wait for another Messiah, and Jesus gave a strong positive hint (verses 18-23). Jesus explained to his disciples about John the Baptist’s ministry and told them the parable of the children in the marketplace (verses 24-35). While Jesus was eating at a Pharisee’s house, a woman poured perfume on Jesus’ feet and washed them. Jesus praised the woman's faith and told the parable of the two men whose debts were forgiven by the Pharisee who was eating with them (vv. 36-50).
Luke 8: Jesus Exercising the Authority of the Messiah [Summary] Jesus traveled to Galilee with the twelve disciples, and women such as Mary Magdalene and Joanna helped Jesus in his ministry (vv. 1-3). Jesus told the people the parable of the sower, and later, when he was with his disciples, he interpreted the parable (vv. 4-15). He also told the parable of the lamp (vv. 16-18). While Jesus was speaking, he saw his mother and brothers coming, and said that anyone who obeyed the word of God was his mother and brother (vv. 17-21). When he crossed the lake, a storm arose, but Jesus calmed it with his word (vv. 22-25). When Jesus arrived in the region of Gerasenes, opposite Galilee, he met a demon-possessed man and healed him (vv. 26-39). After Jesus returned to Galilee, he met a woman suffering from a hemorrhage on his way to heal the daughter of Jairus, a synagogue leader, and healed her. In the meantime, Jairus' daughter had already died, but Jesus raised her from the dead with his great power (vv. 40-56).
