Day 306 Reading Schedule: Luke 23~24 Luke 23: Christ is Crucified [Summary] The crowd rose and led Jesus to Pilate, but Pilate could not find any particular charges against him, so he sent him to Herod (vv. 1-7). After interrogating Jesus, Herod sent him back to Pilate (vv. 8-12). Pilate thought Jesus was innocent and wanted to release him, but the crowd demanded that Jesus be crucified. Pilate was a man who catered to the popular opinion, so he sentenced Jesus to death in order to maintain his power (vv. 13-25). Jesus carried his cross to Calvary and was crucified with two robbers (vv. 26-38). One of the two robbers slandered and mocked Jesus, but the other robber believed that Jesus was the Messiah and received the promise of a place in paradise (vv. 39-43). After Jesus cried out on the cross and died (vv. 44-48), Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin, took Jesus’ body, wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a tomb (vv. 49-56).
Luke 24: The Resurrection and Ascension of Christ [Summary] On the first day of the week, when the women went to Jesus’ tomb with spices, the door was open and two men in shining clothes announced that Jesus had risen. When the women told the apostles about this, the others did not believe it, but Peter ran to the tomb and confirmed that it was empty (vv. 1-12). The resurrected Lord appeared to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus and taught them about Christ (vv. 13-35). The resurrected Lord appeared to the disciples where they were gathered and ate broiled fish (vv. 36-43). Then he explained the Scriptures to them, made them witnesses of Christ’s ministry, and commanded them to remain in Jerusalem until the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, came (vv. 44-49). After that, Jesus went out to Bethany, blessed the disciples, and ascended to heaven (vv. 50-53).
